Mosimane wants World Cup continued

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane rallies for supporters to get behind the side and re-create the 2010 FIFA World Cup vibe ahead of his side's clash with Ghana at Soccer City on Wednesday.

Ghana - the best performing African team at the World Cup, where they reached the quaterfinals - were adopted by the local fans after Bafana were knocked out, even earning the name Ba-Ghana Ba-Ghana.

At a press conference held in Johannesburg, Mosimane thanked the South African public for their support for the national team during the World Cup and urged them to continue in the same spirit.

Mosimane sticks to tried and tested

New Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has largely stuck to the tried and tested when he announced his 22-man squad to face Ghana in an friendly international to be played at Soccer City on Wednesday eveninig (kick off 8.35pm).

The showdown against the Black Stars of Ghana will be Mosimane's first match in charge of the side since his appointment on the 15th of July 2010. He has retained the bulk of the squad that did duty in the 2010 FIFA World, with the exception of defenders Morgan Gould, Bevan Fransman and Innocent Mdledle, midfielder Daine Klate and striker S'thembiso Ngcobo all make a welcomed return to the side.

Amajita star shortlisted for CAF award

Exciting Bafana Bafana newbie Kermit Erasmus has been shortlisted for CAF's Young Player of the Year award taking on March 11 in Ghana.

Erasmus - who is currently on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam from Feyenoord Rotterdam - had a good showing for the South African Under-20 team at the FIFA U20 World Cup last year, but they couldn't find a way past eventual champions Ghana.

He has to Ghana's equally exciting midfielder Dominic Adiyiah of AC Milan and Nigeria's U17 stalwart Sani Emmanuel of Bodens BK to contend with for the young player award.

Bennett takes charge of West African derby

South African referee Daniel Bennett takes charge of the encounter between Nigeria and Ghana in the first African Cup of Nations semi-final in Luanda, Angola.

Bennett will be under pressure in this West African derby - one of the longest rivalries on the African content.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani has sent his message to congratulate the South African referee for this achievement.

SAFA sends condolences to Togo FA

The South African Football Association (SAFA) extended its condolences to the members of the Togo national soccer team and the families of those who tragically lost their lives or are injured in the shooting attack on their team bus in Angola.

The Togo squad was on its way to take part in the 27th edition of the 2010 African Cup of Nations tournament hosted by Angola, when gunmen from the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) rebel group fired on the team bus in Cabinda, a territory separate from the rest of Angola as a result team media officer Stanislas Ocloo, assistant coach Amalete Abalo and a driver were killed.
