The Chance is an opportunity to attend the Nike Academy and get some of the best elite training resources and interaction with some the top Nike athletes.

Off the 30 only four would go out and represent South Africa in the global trials in London and train under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

But first they had to impress the South Africa scouts, Eric Tinkler, Shaun Bartlett, Teboho Moloi and Elsa Storm who were joined by BIDVest Wits head coach Roger de Sa, former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Mngomeni, Muzi Malinga (Durban) and Mzonzima Xheshisa (Cape Town).

  • On-form, in charge: Matthew Pattison

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Matthew Pattison is the reason the Brazilians occupy the top spot on the Absa Premiership log.

After four matches played, Sundowns sit pretty with maximum points in the bag after four games. A fine run that includes seven goals for and only conceding once.

The stocky anchorman's form did not go un-noticed, the Absa Player of the Month award for August/September was his reward plus a neat R10 000 prize for his stellar role in charge of his side's midfield.

The former Newcastle and Norwich City man has not hidden his desire to again be part of the Bafana Bafana set-up. But he has been very understanding of the Bafana coach's dilemna.

  • Double reward for Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns duo Antonio Lopez Habas and Matthew Pattison celebrate all the way to the bank after taking home the Absa Coach and Player of the Month awards for the months August/September.

Both Habas and Pattison will pocket R10 000, for their role in getting the side to the top of the Absa Premiership log standings after four matches played.

It's a great start for the former assistant coach to Hristo Stoichkov during the latter's stint as the Sundowns head coach.

Club president Patrice Motsepe is said to have demanded the league title from the Spanish coach and with the kind of commitment shown by his players thus far, it might just a reality.

Speaking ahead of his side's clash with city rivals Santos in an Absa Premiership clash, De Haan criticised the league's calendar.

The Dutch mentor said that the breaks for international and cup matches makes it difficult for clubs to prepare accordingly.

"It is a pity that we have breaks of three to four weeks," said the Urban Warriors coach.

"Breaks like this are not good because they disrupt continuity."

The former Heereveen and Dutch Under-21 national coach's irritation is justified, as Ajax currently lie second on the log standings.
